About Steam Engine Px48 including pictures of a prototype that is located in Marki Poland where a significant narrow gauge line served the area.
The Px48 is based on the plans used to build the Px29. These plans were recovered from the Fablok factory after the end of WWII.
It might be said that the Px48 is an improved version of the Px29.
It was built in two versions. The Px48 had a four axle tender and with a three axle tender it was designated Px49. The Px49 was built generally for export.
With a superheater and improved firebox, it was economical to operate. It could haul 300 ton trains at 25 km/hr. It carried enough coal and water to be able to travel 65 km.
The floorplate was well laid out and the crew had easy access to everything in the cab.
Here are videos of the engine in operation.

Between 1948 and 1955, 214 were produced.
The major upgrade was in the superheater and domed furnace.
It was initially built for 750 mm (PKP) and 785 mm (Upper Silesian narrow-gauge railway – Railway and Industry) track. Between 1969 and 1974 some were built for 1000 mm track to be used at Piaseczno and Gryfice Koszalin.
