The first copy of the locomotive was produced in the second half of 1929 . At that time is was called the Vilnius. It was not until 1945 that the designation PX29 was applied.

This locomotive proved to be a successful design. It was well-liked because of its ease of use.

21 units were built, most ot which were for 750 mm track.

The locomotive could haul a train with a weight of 300 t at a speed of 25 km / h. It could maneuver on curves with a radius of 35 m.

This design was used as the basis for the later and very successful narrow gauge steam engine, Px48.

An operating Px29 can be seen at the Sochaczew Train Museum.
