Decide what type trees you will make.

Do you want only tall single stem trees or do you want other  varieties?  If you want other varieties, you will use branches from the main seafoam stem to add to plastic armatures, wire armatures, small sticks. These branches will also make nice shorter roadside and edge trees.

For most varieties, save money by getting smaller branches instead of tall single stem shoots.

Weeds, hedges, flowering bushes, brambles

To model weeds, hedges, flowering bushes, brambles, make clumps from very small branches.

Leaves

For leaves, we generally use fine and medium ground turf.  Highlight the foliage by using a couple of different colors.

Adding Branches

To add branches to armatures, give the armature a good spray with CA glue fixer.  Put a drop of CA glue on the branch tip.  It will immediately stay in place when it touches the armature.

Adding Flock And Leaves

Use hair spray to attach flock to the branches etc.. You avoid drips and get immediate hold. Add a final over spray for a super hold.
