How to install Arduino IDE and drivers.
Installing the Arduino IDE is not as straightforward as it seems on its face. Page goes through the installation process in detail.
There are a few versions of the IDE. This page shows what is available.
But perhaps the best option is to use the Online IDE. The link to that is here.
We recommend against the beta version. Use the latest 1.8.** version.
You will have two choices. One file is .zip and the other a .exe. The .exe comes with the drivers. If you use the .zip you will have to add them.
Windows does not always install the IDE properly.
So:
Before you install the IDE, plug in your Arduino board (Mega or Uno).
Go to your Control Panel and open the device manager.
Look under ports (Com & LPT). There will be an open port such as Arduino UNO (COMxx) .
Right click on that and choose Update Driver Software.
Then “Browse my computer for driver software. ”
