Circuit Boards That You Can Use To Animate Your Layouts And Dioramas
What’s In This Page
A set of recommendations as to what circuit boards that can be used to properly add lights to a model train layout and/or diorama.
If you are using a phone, at the bottom of the page there are links to many supplies for modelers. Otherwise those links are in the sidebar to the right. You can also find other information by using the search function that is in the navigation bar above.

Free Layout And Diorama Lighting Help
Tell me what you would like to do and I will give you a detailed plan that tells you how you can efficiently do it.
And I will give you the arduino programs that you need to do it. You can use them on either our circuit boards or your own.
What do I need?
- What do you want your lights to do? Light buildings, street lights, signs, security lights, thunderstorms, sunlight to sunset overhead light, background sounds, general outside lighting and anything else.
- How many buildings, etc?
- How many lights do you want in each?
- Should the lights random on off, fade on off, run continuously, etc.?
- If using an event timer, how long in real time should your 24 hour cycle last?
- At what time of the day should the various activities start and stop.
- A sketch, or two, or three would really help. Show approximate location of everything. Include distances.

Page Update In Progress
Building Lights – There are 12 screw terminal positions on a general board for lights and two analog input positions that allow for external control of the lights program. The lights are controlled by an Arduino mini pro.
The actual number Of lights depends on the current draw of the lights that you use. Each output pins as the maximum current limit of 40 mA. The total load on the board is normally stated as 400 mA what you can actually in many cases go up to 500 mA. So that means you can have multiple lights on any one output. Pin.
It is not necessary to put lights in any one building. You can have the lights in different buildings as well as using the lights for general lighting purposes, security lights, streetlights, and so on.
And because you have analog input pins you can have the lights function differently in various areas.
If you have questions about any of the above contact me through this link and I will help you with programming and center.
Lights With Sound – You may have a light this way be it in the building signed carnival or whatever that you wish to have accompanied by sound. This board has not only an Arduino mini Pro but also a mini MP3 player that you can program as you wish.
Background Sounds – You may wish different sounds to be played at different times and in different places. This board has three mini MP3 players that you can control independently.
Event Timer – This is the heart of animating a layout or diorama. It allows you to initiate actions on independent boards. It also has a connection that allows you to add a WS 2812 B LEDs strip. If you are going to start if you are going to animate a layout, start with this. The board comes with the basic program and with instructions how to adapt that program to your layout.
As with all our boards we will help you adapt that program to your particular layout and make recommendations as to boards that you need to accomplish what you want.
Warning Lights / Signs – Traffic warning signs and many other signs and displays will have light displays. By traffic warning sign that operates 24 hours a day use a general board that is programmed so that the lights display constantly.
Fading Lights – Streetlights as well as others fade on and fade off. To fade a light you must use a PWM pin.
Street Lights –
Security / Yard Lights –
